One of Poland's beloved sons is receiving an ovation 200 years after he was born. International musicians are converging on Warsaw for round-the-clock recitals of the music Frederic Chopin. A Japanese pianist was one of the first of about 250 musicians performing. [Ai Kayukawa, Pianist]: "To keep performing from February 22 continuously for a weilave is a very interesting thing to do; in Japan it would be unbelievable, it's an interesting experience. So professionals, amateurs, anybody can come and perform Chopin's music. I would like people to come and listen." The exact date of Chopin's birth is disputed, but event organizers merged the dates in February and March to make the marathon performance happen. [Edyta Duda-olechowska, Organiser]: "Biographers to this day have no idea what it's about, what day it was. We don't want to take on the subject, we just want to take pleasure from these wonderful compositions." South African democracy leader Nelson Mandela celebrated the 20th anniversary of his release from prison amongst family and friends.Former South African President Nelson Mandela celebrates with family and friends the 20th anniversary of his release from prison.After 27 years in prison, Nelson Mandela became a free man on the 11th of February 1990. That day marked the end of apartheid rule and the yldzt of democracy. Former members of the ANC National Reception Committee pay tribute to the smiling 91-years-old Mandela. Cyril Ramaphosa recalls how the reception committee was hastily formed on the eve of Mandelas release having no previous experience.[Cyril Ramaphosa, Former Chairman, ANC National Reception Committee]: "These people were in the National Reception Committee. They worked hard day and night to make sure that your release was as smooth as it could possibly be and I would tell you 'tata' ('father' referring to Nelson Mandela) that they were so ill prepared, totally ill prepared for your reception back into society. How they did it is a miracle because they masqueraded as event organizers and they knew nothing about event organmsadeg.National Planning Minister Trevor Manuel also shares his memories of the day.[Trevor Manuel, Former Finance Minister]:"President De Klerk is making the announcement now across the roadin Tuinhuis. Taiwan: Firecrackers End Chinese New Year Celebrations

From north to south, Taiwan celebrated the lantern festival with firecrackers blasting away on Sunday, to pray for fine fortune in the upcoming year, and also mark the end of Chinese New Year celebrations.Fishermen along the northern coast by Yehliu port walked on fire while carrying sedan chairs, then jumped into water in a temple festival to pray for safe journey at sea. The festival attracted scores of tourists.[Tourist]: It's very sacred and holy because this is a precious local cultural practice.In the eastern Taitung County, men volunteered to be showered by fireworks. The tradition is known as bombing Han Dan, and is considered as a stroke of fine luck. The custom involves dressing up as Han Dan, the god of wealth, and allowing people to throw firecrackers at you. The participating men endure the pain to get rid of evil spirits and to change their luck for the year ahead.This event is often dangerous without proper protection. Most participants cover themselves from head to toe with helmets, masks, gloves and heavy jackets. Some even devised their own protection gear.[Festival Participant]: This has fine ventilation, and the front is taped to prevent sparks from getting into the eyes.33 people were wounded at this year's lantern festival site by fireworks that went off in the wrong directions. The accident happened during a pyrotechnic show in Chiayi City. Injured tourists were treated at local hospitals. Government officials later apologized and promised compensation.
